Please remember the crosswalk in front of the office has a stop sign.

Even if a teacher is not standing on duty with an additional stop sign, the law requires that you stop your car at the crosswalk before proceeding. Not only is it the law, but the safety of students MUST be our top priority.

Strive for 5

Our challenge at Gehringer is for each student to strive to miss less than 5 days of school. When a student misses too many school days, they miss more than a piece of paper. Much of what we do in a day is directed teaching.

Let’s try to get to school on time each day!

All About Mrs. Cookson

This is my 30th year of teaching.  The first few years were at Oakley
Elementary teaching first grade.  I moved to Laurel Elementary when it
opened, teaching first grade for several years, then second for several
more.  I have been teaching first grade at Gehringer for ten years.

Mrs. Cookson's First Grade

Tonight, May 16, is Open House from 6:00 - 7:30. I hope to see you there.

Our field trip will be next Tuesday, May 21. We are going to the Civic Center. There is no donation, the PTA is covering the cost of the bus, however, each child needs to have a permission slip signed and returned. Please do so at your earliest convenience.

Field Day will be June 4 this year.

If you would like to volunteer to run a game for first grade, the link is https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0b4da4ab2caafa7-field3

Scholastic book orders will be sent

home periodically.

There is no deadline for ordering.

When you place an order,

it will be processed.

My order code is GXRLD.

Homework

Homework will be sent home each Monday and due back the following Friday.

Typical Night’s Homework:

  1. Reading or re-reading a small story and completing one area of a story web (reading comprehension)
  2. Math: several practice problems that help your child retain completed benchmarks or targets
  3. Spelling: spelling words - A worksheet will come home weekly. Your child is to practice their words any way they would like; orally, writing, or games. They will be given a spelling test each Friday.
  4.

Forgotten or incomplete homework

If your child forgets his/her homework, it can be brought the next school day. HOWEVER, he/she will have to spend part of recess in the zone doing an alternative assignment.

Since the homework only comes in once a week, we are expecting it to be complete! If you need more time, you can email your teacher and set up a plan to help your child. PLEASE do not have your child turn homework in early unless Friday is a non-school day or he/she will be missing school on Friday.

Expectation: Your child’s work should be neat, clean, and completed! He/She is to be responsible for returning it to the teacher.
