Fall Trimester

We are enjoying learning about colors, families and living things.  We will love singing in first grade and will have a family day at the end of the trimester.  We use National Geographic for our Literature program and Engage New York for our math curriculum. Part of our Mind Up curriculum is teaching students about the brain and how it controls emotions, memories, and controlling our behavior.  Students have written in their mind up journals and will start creative writing in squiggle books.  Math we are going to keep adding facts within 10.  It's going to be a great year!! Welcome to first grade!

We have Monday September 3rd off for Labor day and Friday September 7th for a staff day.  Plan to enjoy some time with your family those days!

First trimester

We are building on our basic skills for reading, writing, and math facts.  We are daily practicing our phonics and word building skills. We are using a new Language Arts curriculum from National Geographic.  It includes history, science, social studies and interesting story books every week!  We are excited to explore these new stories as they teach us all about things in our world.  For math we are starting with groups of 5 and working to adding all facts to twenty.  We will continue to use Engage New York curriculum which encourages critical thinking.  We will use hands on materials and use strategies to help students learn important concepts.

ELL teacher lead

I am the lead teacher for the bilingual students who are here at Gehringer elementary school.  I help coordinate testing, curriculum, support and collaboration on behalf of our English language learners on campus.  I work with the teachers to help implement ideas and curriculum to increase student achievement.  I am proud to serve in this capacity the past four years.

We will be going over all the rules of the playground equipment and teaching the children new games to play for recess time.  During PE when it is too hot to go outside we will have PE indoors.

Parent Teacher Association

Join me at the PTA meetings and join the association that benefits our school!

I am proud to help and support the PTA that gives so much for our students and staff.

You can find out information and sign up at the above link.  Hope to see you there!

Wish List

Expo markers for white boards

Clorox wipes

baby wipes

construction paper

We will weekly get to go to the library on Tuesdays and check out books!  Make sure your student is responsible for his/her book and bringing it back each week. Thank you! Mrs Evans

We sure love to sing in first grade!  Mrs Snider leads us in music each Wednesday.  All first graders join in this time of songs and learning each week. We will focus on colors and songs for our family day performance!  We also have music class once a month with a music teacher from the district on Mondays.

Mind UP

We are using a new positive thinking and motivation curriculum started by the Mind Up foundation.  It is used in many schools across the country and they have seen increased student performance and increased conflict resolution.  We discuss, read books, watch videos and write about how to control our emotions as well as behaviors.
